Does ONYX hold my money?+−
No. ONYX never custodies funds or securities. You connect your own Alpaca brokerage account via OAuth, and all cash and positions stay at Alpaca. ONYX only reads your account and, if you opt in, sends order instructions on your behalf.
Can it trade without my approval?+−
Only if you build a protocol in The Lab and explicitly connect it to a live action. Paper trading is the default for every new protocol. Switching a protocol to live trading is a deliberate, separate opt-in — nothing trades live by accident.
Which brokers are supported?+−
Alpaca today, for both paper and live equities and crypto trading. You authorize the connection through Alpaca's own OAuth flow — ONYX never sees or stores your brokerage credentials.
What happens if a protocol misfires or a data feed goes down?+−
Protocols run against whatever data is currently available; if a feed (SEC EDGAR, BLS, Alpaca, etc.) is stale or down, dependent triggers simply don't fire rather than acting on bad data. You can pause or delete any protocol at any time from The Lab, and every run is logged so you can see exactly what it evaluated and did.
Is my Alpaca connection revocable?+−
Yes, at any time — from ONYX's settings or directly from your Alpaca account. Revoking immediately cuts off ONYX's ability to read your account or place orders; nothing lingers.
Is this investment advice?+−
No. ONYX is not a registered broker-dealer or investment adviser and does not provide investment advice or personalized recommendations. It's data, an AI analyst, and automation tooling you configure and control — the decisions are yours.
What are the free-tier limits?+−
Free includes the full market terminal and dashboard, a limited version of LYNX, up to 3 active paper protocols, watchlist view access to ATLAS, and watchlists & alerts. Pro ($29/mo) unlocks live trading, 50 active protocols, custom triggers and webhooks, and full ATLAS search.
Can I use my own models or MCP servers?+−
Yes. ONYX supports bring-your-own MCP servers, so you can extend LYNX and The Lab with your own tools and data sources rather than being limited to what ships out of the box.
Can I export my data?+−
Yes. Your watchlists, protocol configurations, and run history are yours and exportable — ONYX isn't a data lock-in.
What happens to running protocols if I downgrade?+−
If you downgrade below a plan's protocol limit, protocols over the new limit are paused (not deleted) until you either upgrade again or bring your active count under the limit. Live-trading actions are disabled immediately on any plan that doesn't include live trading.
